Tree Down BelowNovember 18, 2015 The North winds have picked up a bit, 60-80kms and a little gusting at times. One of the trees on the bank on the property below up rooted and fell across the utility's lines and the way out. With out power for 12+ hours while they removed the tree over the lines and did repairs.

Youbou's Haunted House Oct 31,2015
Bigger and better this year again, Youbou Hall's Haunted House & Halloween party was a great success, if scaring the pants off people visiting it was the aim. The costume contest also attracted more entrants of all ages (especially the older folk). Topped off by the Youbou Volunteer Fire Department's Firework display at the end of the evening. |

Heritage Days in Lake Cowichan

With a rich logging heritage Lake Cowichan invites it's residents new and old to relive it's past by visiting the Kaatza museum to see it's displays or watching the logging truck parade come down main street, you can enjoy a picnic at the old school house courtesy of the volunteers who work there or show off your pet at the pet show and parade. There is something for every one. These are some of the photos I made for the local paper, the Lake Cowichan Gazette. |
The National Day of Mourning

The National Day of Mourning was was first observed in Canada in 1991 to recognize the raising number of men and women who lose their lives while working There are an average of 902 death's a year. While the Canadian flag on Parliament Hill is flown at half-mast. Workers light candles, don ribbons and black armbands and observe moments of silence. In Lake Cowichan a small group of people gather at the Forest Workers Memorial Park to remember loved ones lost in our area. Businesses participate by declaring April 28 a Day of Mourning and to strive to prevent workplace deaths, illnesses and injuries. |

Lake Cowichan Food Bank wins at Fire Dept vs Lakers Hockey

The Lake Cowichan Fire Department vs the Countrywide Midget Lakers play a charity fundraiser hockey game to raise money and food for the Lake Cowichan Food Bank. More than 100 people attended to donate to the food bank and were treated to a great hockey game between two really tough teams. The LCFD came out on top of the score sheet 15 -9 but the real winner of the game was the LC Food Bank getting a boot full of money and a table overflowing with food. |
Winter Nights at the Lake Cowichan 50 plus Seniors Center

The Lake Cowichan 50 plus Seniors Center's Winter Nights Concert series continued Saturday night with the Paul Ruszel Trio, consisting of Bryon Thompson, Tom Horsfall and Paul Ruszel. The music consisted of songs written by Ruszel (some of them contest winners!) about the Cowichan and Cowichan Lake area. The trio told humorus stories about each of the songs and their ties to the local area. The audience (70+people) called the band back for encore after encore not wanting the evening to end. |

Big wins for Wigs for Kids and Cops for Cancer

Even though it's for a great cause shaving all your hair off is a big step for anyone. Two Lake Cowichan girls Brooklyn Brown and Jewell Irving, decided to donate their hair to Wigs For Kids and raise money to help people with Cancer. The event was filled with emotion as the hair was chopped then shaved. While the girls were being shaved two of the teachers volunteered to have their legs waxed for donations to the cause. After holding Hot Dog sales in their community, Cupcake sales at their school and the pledges to shave their hair off they raised $1660. |
The 2015 Tim Horton's Juvenile Curling Championships - Lake Cowichan BC

The Tim Horton's BC Juvenile Curling Championships was held at the Cowichan Rocks Curling Club.Teams from Zones 1-8 in BC.were here to see which teams would represent BC at the Nationals in Edmonton, Alberta in April. The gold winners were the McCrady rink from the Royal City Curling Club in Victoria BC. |
