In Nature's Realm Early naturalists explore Vancouver Island. Michael Layland was president of the Victoria Historical Society, the Friends of the BC Archives, and is an amateur naturalist. Trained as an officer and mapmaker in the Royal Engineers, now retired, he has authored three books on the progression of European knowledge of Vancouver Island.

This was one of the info boards created for Catalyst Paper in Crofton (right) for a presentation given in Lake Cowichan. They purchased eight images to be used to hi light the beauty of the Cowichan Lake area.

I was happy to do a half page photo spread from the 2014 Duncan Summer Festival Parade. It was in the July 16, 2014 issue of The Cowichan News Leader Pictorial. I was listed as one of the Cowichan Valleys best photographers by HQ Best Of Cowichan Valley It has certainly been a great year for me, being picked up as a photographer/reporter for the Cowichan Valley region by Island Sports News, covering this years Lake Days Events in Lake Cowichan for the News Leader/Pictorial. (where Cowichan's best Photographer, Andrew Leong rules!) Then the icing on the cake, today (June 6, 2013) I find I am one of 8 local photographers in the nominated for best Cowichan Valley Photographer in 2013. My Still photo work is going great now. I have produced photos and Christmas Cards for clients as well as coffee table books for events and celebrations.
Shaw TV's " The Daily" has aired my images for a segment about Lake Cowichan's Great Lake Walk, on one of their TV shows. I have worked at many local events and shoot family portraits and news storys, as I continue to cover these events I am getting great feedback for my work. The Cowichan News Leader/Leader Pictorial/Lake Cowichan Gazette. I freelance at a couple of our local news papers, The Leader Pictorial, News Leader, and the Lake Cowichan Gazette as a photographer and writer. Island Sports News.com I've written stories and display photos of Sports/Events in the Cowichan Valley on this internet sports site.
